Alumni and Donors

Alumni are invited to visit the biology department to meet with current majors and to talk with them by phone or email.

Contact with alumni can be a life-changing motivational experience and may offer a powerful resource to cadets preparing for graduate school or careers in biology. If interested contact: Colonel Ashleigh B. Smythe, Department Head, Department of Biology, 540-464-7934

The Biology Department would love to hear from you and share your story with fellow biology graduates, faculty, and friends by publishing your comments in our newsletter.  Send your information to: Sarah A. Bennell, Administrative Assistant, Biology Department, 540-464-7247

The Carroll Fund

Through the grace and generosity of loyal alumni, the biology department is fortunate to have a sizable private endowment. The endowment honors one of the most notable faculty members in the history of the Institute, Col. Robert P. “Doc” Carroll. For 40 years, beginning in 1928, Doc Carroll imparted his wisdom on countless biology majors and was instrumental in placing many of them into medical school and dental school.

The fund has grown significantly over the years, providing money for equipment purchases and affording the department the opportunity to monetarily reward cadets for outstanding academic performance.

Contributions to the Carroll Fund can be made through the VMI Foundation.
